Data Service Platform v.s DCS

Data Service Platform which Cnix is providing in market is one of DCS (Distributed Control System) except that it is based on software. In usual, DCS is used to integrate big scaled system such as plants because some faults or errors of peripheral systems shouldn’t accept on whole system.


The representative example that Data Service Platform of Cnix was applied as the DCS system is the system integration of Air Traffic Control System. All of Air Traffic Control Devices that are installed country-wide were integrated by Data Service Platform of Cnix and they are being monitored in headquarter. The reason why it was designed as a DCS is the this integrated monitoring system should be able to run without termination even if some devices which had been installed some area were out of order.


Data which were gathered on Data Service Platform will serve data consumers such as Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, SCADA and so on in real time. What these services have to do for accessing all data in Data Service Platform is only connecting to Data Service Platform without considering the kind of hardware. Even they can also control data which are connected to hardware if they are allowed.


The big difference between hardware based DCS and Data Service Platform is the scan-time of data. The first is that scan-time of data in hardware based DCS is determined by hardware performance and specifications of DCS but the scan-time of data in Data Service Platform is determined by the property of data or devices. And the second is that scan-time of hardware based DCS can be configured as the parameter of tasks which run in hardware based DCS but it can be configured as the parameter of individual data or device.



These two differences makes external services enable to access time-synchronized data from all connected devices on Data Service Platform. In side of external services, it means that they can deal with enormous systems which have so many different kinds of devices as a single virtual machine.


Let’s imagine that this concept of Data Service Platform is applied to cities. Then all functions of city can be controlled and programed on the integrated engineering environment. So to speak, new functions for city can be added and existed functions of city can be deleted, updated and modified by only software update without civil works.


Let’s try to imagine again that Data Service Platform is applied to plants. Then it means that complicated processes from material input to products output can be dealt as a single process because all data will be synchronized on time domain. IT services for management such as Artificial Intelligence and Analysis Services can serve their results to people faster and more accurate than before because they can access all realtime data from start processes to end processes. Even they can reduce the cost for plants replication dramatically because all process algorithm can be packed as the single process and Data Service Platform would perfectly separate IT service layer from hardware layer so they can copy and paste it.
